Senator Dino Melaye, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the November 16, 2019, Kogi-West senatorial election, has reacted to his loss at the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal.
Naija News earlier reported that the tribunal hearing the dispute arising from the outcome of the Kogi West senatorial district election had given its verdict in favor of Senator Smart Adeyemi.
The tribunal in its ruling on Wednesday dismissed the petition by Dino Melaye and the PDP.
The three judges of the tribunal were unanimous that the petitioners failed to prove their case.
It will be recalled Melaye and the PDP challenged the result of the election declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which saw Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressive Congress (APC) emerge as Senator representing the Kogi West constituency.
Reacting in a video on his Twitter page, Dino Melaye stated that he never expected victory at the election petition tribunal.
The former lawmaker who expressed disappointment in the ruling revealed that he will be appealing the Judgment.
Melaye, however, called on his supporters to stay away from violence and remain law-abiding.
I never expected Justice at this level. But we shall laugh last. pic.twitter.com/XLV9xtDbRF
