An officer of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), attached to Akwa Ibom State Police Command has been relieved of his duty over alleged involvement in cultist activities in the state.

According to the report, the officer was sent off from the service after investigations revealed that he recently participated in an initiation of a young man into a cult group identified as Junior Vikings Confraternity.

Naija News learnt that the officer, Mfon Esio, was discovered to be part of the cult group after one Ubong John William was kidnapped and taken to a bush along Marina road, in Eket local government area of the state where he was reportedly forced to join the Junior Vikings Confraternity.

Speaking on the development, Spokesperson of the state police command, CSP N-Nudam Frederick said that the officer has been dismissed from the force after thorough investigations confirmed his relationship with the unlawful group.

Frederick, however, revealed that the command has also arrested twelve persons suspected to be members of a deadly cultist group in the community in different locations.

Items recovered from the twelve suspects include 10 locally-made pistols, live cartridges, machetes, axes, charms, hard drugs and other dangerous weapons.

“The Constable has been subjected to an orderly room trial where he was found guilty of the offence and has been dismissed immediately from the Force. This will serve as a deterrent to others of his like in the Force,” said Frederick.

“The Commissioner of Police Akwa Ibom State, therefore, warns that any persons no matter how highly placed involved in cultism or other crimes will be promptly arrested and prosecuted accordingly.”

In another development, a suspected cult member arrested by the Ogun State Police Command, Adewale Adeoye, has debunked speculations that he murdered sixteen people in the community.

According to the suspect who identified himself as a professional printer and a drop-out from Michael Otedola College of Education, he has only killed three people in his operations and not sixteen as reported.
